I have cherished every moment of my time spent in Morocco – it’s a destination I cannot get enough of. I Every time I start packing my bags to return, I find myself revelling in the delightful challenge of curating the perfect wardrobe as a woman in this captivating country – it’s perfect for anyone with a Boho flair. For me, there is never a question of what to wear in Morocco – but how am I going to fit all of my favourite outfits in my bag?!
Morocco unfolds as a mosaic of beauty, featuring a diverse landscape and lively cities. Along the coast, quaint fishing towns and some of the world’s most unique surf spots beckon, while the inland areas pulse with energy from bustling souks crowding the winding Medina streets. Beyond the enchanting scenes of the souks and snake charmers, vibrant rugs, stray cats, coupled with the ubiquitous Arabic design, one discovers warm hosts and a populace of welcoming individuals. The culture in Morocco embraces visitors with open arms, creating an experience that feels nothing short of a dream.
Now, as of my latest visit in January 2024, having explored Morocco over five times, each encounter has left me enamored. From a 3-week backpacking escapade with a close friend to a luxurious 15-person villa rental in the heart of Marrakesh, a high-end FAM trip with one of our esteemed vendors as a travel agency, and even attending work conferences – Morocco has become a recurring destination for me. A General Idea on What to Wear in Morocco
Morocco is a sizzly girlie in the summer, with the temperatures soaring and the air dry. Although evenings bring some relief, it’s crucial to dress for the heat during your time in Morocco. Through the winter months, the evenings can turn quite chilly, but for the most part, the days maintain a mild climate. Given Morocco’s predominantly desert and arid landscape, rainfall is minimal, even in the northern regions closer to Europe and Gibraltar.
Here are the essentials to keep in mind when packing for Morocco:

The majority of Morocco’s population adheres to the religion of Islam. When visiting any country, it’s advisable to show due respect to the local culture by dressing appropriately. This doesn’t necessarily entail donning a hijab, but opting for more modest attire than one might be accustomed to in most Western countries is prudent. Ensuring coverage of shoulders and knees is customary, and considering the desert climate, loose and flowing clothing is recommended. Below, I’ve outlined some of my favorite styles for the modern female traveler in Morocco.
Essentials to pack for Morocco
Sunhat // Your packing list for the Galapagos (perfect for female travelers!) would not be complete without a sunhat! The sun blazes down in Morocco, and the sun shines bright in the Sahara, so for my fashion-forward Boho Travellers, an adorable Boater Hat like this one from Etsy will do the trick! Otherwise, don’t forget your ball cap or bucket hat!
Sunglasses // Don’t leave your best sunnies behind! Polarized lenses will save your eyesight from the desert sun while in the Morocco. The Erika Ray-Bans Frame have been my go-to for easy travel & active sunnies that still look cute for about 5 years now!
Sunscreen // Reef-safe and smells delicious, Sun Bum is my go-to sunscreen for the last 6 years! This travel-size kit is perfect for packing for Morocco.
Water Bottle // Definitely do NOT forget your pack your refillable water bottle when you go to Morocco! Some people like to travel with a collapsible water bottle, like this one from Hydaway, but I prefer to have a filtered bottle so I know what I am drinking is safe. You’ll rarely ever catch me without my Brita Water Bottle!
Tops to Pack for Female Travellers in Morocco
2-3 Tanks // One of my favourite styles in Morocco is a tank top paired with a lighter weight linen overshirt to cover the shoulders. I basically live in these ribbed tank tops and linen blend tank tops from H&M. They come in a variety of colors and are great for layering & pairing with multiple outfits to help ease your struggle of trying to pack for the Morocco!
3-4 Tees & Longsleeves // Keeping things simple, be sure to pack a few of your favorite simple tee shirts and long sleeves to pair with your linen pants, shorts, and skirts!
4-5 Flowy Tops/ Tunics // I love this Utility Top from Banana Republic as it just screams “Galapagos Safari”. Having a few loose and flowy tops in your packing for the Galapagos gives you additional flexibility in your wardrobe pairings, and can take a workout sports bra and leggings to a cute leggings & tunic pairing!
1 Water Wicking/ Excercise Top // I adore this simple water-wicking long-sleeve shirt from Helly Hansen – it’s simple and will keep your body out of the sun when you head into the Atlas Mountains to do any hikes while in Morocco. You can also wear it in or out of the water and stay comfortable, just in case you head to the coast and do any day trips and it dries incredibly fast! A short sleeve is also great for heavy hiking days!
Light fleece/Cardigan/ Midlayer // You might have guessed by now that Helly Hansen is my go-to for active and outdoor gear, that is why there is so much of it listed in this Morocco Packing Guide for Female Travellers! Their mid-layer stuff is just as good as their base and outerwear, and I am in LOVE with all of my Helly Hansen Fleece Midlayers! If you are traveling in winter, a cute fleece is never a bad idea!
Bottoms – How to Pack for Morocco
2-3 pairs of Linen Pants // I pretty much exist solely in these linen pants, they come in a multitude of colors and are so comfy, and pair well with pretty much any top. I also like this pair of wide-leg linen pants, and this pair of “safari-esque” linen joggers.
1 Pair of Leggings // I love my Lululemon leggings (honestly who doesn’t) but you may not want to get them mucky and muddy on your adventures in Mirocco! For my trip to MOrocco I also packed this pair from Target that I didn’t mind getting messed up while hiking or during travel days!
3-4 Flowy Midi & Maxi Skirts // I can’t travel without packing at least one flowy skirt in my bag, and when it comes to Morocco, I am going to pack more than one! I am currently obsessing over this skirt from Free People. I also love this wrap skirt from J. Crew (who doesn’t love a good wrap skirt?) and this simple linen skirt. I also really like this Remie Fabric skirt from Banana Republic! Oh, and both the Free People and J. Crew skirts can double as dresses. When packing for Morocco, as a female, any midi or maxi length skirts or dresses are always going to be a win!
Outfits to pack for Morocco
3-4 Tea Length / Maxi Dresses // You know I love a good cottagecore or boho style maxi or midi dress, so my female traveler’s packing guide for the Morocco would be incomplete without listing a few! Packing 3-4 dresses when you go to Morocco will make travel photos pop! and this open-back midi dress will make you feel like a Boho Queen. I also love this linen safari-style midi dress. I have a Kara Thoms dress that looks like this one here from Free People, but this one is a third of the price!
1-2 Jumpsuits // I personally love my “dino digging ‘fit” and it’s great for Safari, Morocco, and the Galapagos! Unfortunately, the one I wear is no longer available, but there is this great option from the Banana Republic and a super cute version very similar to mine in dark olive from L.L. Bean.
Shoes to Pack and Wear in Morocco
I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, but Birdies are legitimately the ULTIMATE travel shoe. Seriously, seven laters of comfort with memory foam don’t even BEGIN to explain how much I love these shoes. Invest in a pair of Birdies and your feet will be thanking you in Morocco. Their sandals are literally so cute and the perfect Morocco shoe and their slides will go with anything!
You can never go wrong with a good pair of Birkenstocks – they are the ultimate shoe for traipsing around the souks of Morocco. They mold to your feet and are always comfortable!

Kimonos & Cover Ups to Wear in Morocco
Swimwear to Wear in Morocco
2-3 Bathing Costumes // You will definitely be in the water during your trip to Morocco, whether at the beach or your hotel pool or private riad swimming hole, so be sure to pack 2-3 pairs of swimsuits! I love to purchase reversible swimsuits so it’s like a 2-in-1!
You are going to want a bathing suit to match the culture and the vibe of this complex and diverse country. I literally adore anything From Whiskini Bikinis – It’ll last you forever and they are totally customizable and reversible. At the riads or the beach, you can pretty much go any which way you want. 1 Shorties/ Wetsuit // The water in Morocco can get pretty chilly, so I recommend packing a shortie wetsuit, especially if you plan on doing any surfing or kite boarding. This is not a “must” as you can always rent, but I do think it is a good idea to invest in one if you like this sort of travel! Essaouria is a really well known surfing destination where you can take classes if you are feeling adventurous!

Pro Tip: Drones are not allowed in the Morocco! Leave it at home or they will confiscate it!
Camera Bag // While I love the Lo & Sons bag for everyday use, I usually bring quite a bit more gear with me on the trip than I bring out during the day. I use a WANDRD backpack as my personal item to store all my travel gear, and I don’t think I could live without it. It is compact, easy to use, and has great customizable storage compartments that seem to never end but are always easy to access. It’s also comfortable to wear and expandable.
Fujifilm XS10 // This is a great addition to my camera family, I know it would perform well in Morocco. I traveled with. DSLR, the Canon Rebel T6, and she performed well, though was a bit heavy to lug around.
Canon R7 // This is my current camera and my baby girl. Mirrorless, she doesn’t weigh as much as your traditional DSLR, and takes fantastic photos and video. An absolute win for any photographer.
GoPro // There is nothing that will beat. a GoPro for all of the underwater adventure filming and photography you need.
Bubble Dome// If you want cool half-in-half-out-of-the-water shots, you should look into a housing dome for your GoPro. This will allow you to get that look, though it is a bit much to travel with.
Memory Cards // There is nothing worse than getting somewhere and realizing that you forgot to put your memory card in your camera! I recommend traveling with 3-4 128 GB memory cards. This way you can hold enough photos for 1-2 days but not too many that if something happens to it, you’ll lose your footage from the en. ire trip! 1TB memory cards scare me!

My daughter and I are going to Morocco in June before she leaves for college. We are looking for appropriate clothing to wear.
That will be such a fun trip! I would say as long as your dress modestly & comfortably you are winning! Loose fabrics that are light, like linen, always seem to work well in Morocco – not only are they practical, but super cute!
