Condo in the Heart of Downtown – Right next to all the happenings, this condo is by far one of the best located in Savannah!  It only sleeps four people, so it’s better suited for a small group trip.  The pretty hardwood floors and central location make this homestay in Savannah a winner for me!

Historic Loft Downtown Savannah – This modern meets vintage loft is an amazing find.  With exposed brick walls it will offer you and the girls some GREAT Insta shots!

201 York #4 – This beautiful home in a 1900s Victorian building is DEVINE for a gal’s getaway.  Sleeping 5, it has exposed rafters, a gorgeous rooftop terrace, and of course, premium location to bar hop around!

How to Get Around Savannah

Savannah is fairly easy to navigate. The streets are set up in grid format, so they’re simple enough to understand. When staying downtown, you will be two miles away from the bar area. I recommend having a car for the weekend to visit some things just outside of the main drag, but if you don’t have access to a car, you can always skip those or opt for an Uber out there.

Ubering and Lyft are both available in Savannah, and the most a car ride app should cost when going from one downtown spot to another is $10, typically less.

Savannah Girls’ Weekend Safety Info

Savannah is a relatively safe town. There are plenty of locals and tourists alike. Being a southern town, most of the people will be friendly, welcoming, and inviting. However, as in any city, there are some dodgy areas. Make sure you lock your doors at night and stay in busy, well-lit areas. Be wary of pickpockets, and always stick with your group!

General Savannah Good to Know Info

Savannah has an open container law. This means fun nights of bar hopping and to-go slushies during the middle of the day while window shopping! Feel free to grab a road beer and enjoy the sights while sipping on your favorite adult beverage.

Savannah has a long and deep historical past. It would be offensive to go to Savannah and not learn about some of the histories that have taken part in this down. Some of it is quite morbid, involving slavery and the Civil War. Make sure you learn something about American history while you are in town. There are several homes in the city center where this is possible.

St. Patrick’s Day in Savannah is WILD. The river is dyed green, and there’s a giant party. If you plan on spending St. Patrick’s Day in Savannah, expect your room rates to be through the roof, and book well in advance.

Homes are private property — so are their stairs! They might look like cute little photo op spots, but make sure they’re public property before you climb them. If you sit on someone’s private porch, technically, that’s trespassing.

Get a map of the city — Savannah has 22 famous squares. It is worth picking up a map to see their historical significance and location!

Savannah has so many things to do — it’s crazy! Here is a list of some of my favorite activities for a ladies’ weekend getaway!

Trolley Tour — This hop-on, hop-off trolley tour is a great way to get around Savannah, learn about the history, and familiarize yourself with this amazing little southern town.

Haunted Pub Crawl — The haunted pub crawl was one of our favorite parts of our Savannah Girls’ Weekend! To be honest, I don’t remember much of it, except we drank a lot, our guide was the perfect amount of spooky and historical, and a random lady on the street tried to stick her hand up my skirt….yeah it was weird, but totally not the tour’s fault and we STILL loved it!

Drag Show — If you’ve never been to a drag show before, this one in Savannah does it right! It is a small, intimate setting, and the performers were fabulous! I am a HUGE fan of drag shows and go more than the average person and I really enjoyed this one!

Wormsloe Home—This beautiful home is just a 10-minute drive from downtown. The historic driveway is also incredibly famous—it’s featured in the movie Forest Gump.

Bonaventure Cemetary — You can explore this beautiful cemetery on your own – but it is definitely worth it to get a guide to learn all about who is resting there.

Rainbow Row—This beautiful little street is an Instagrammer’s paradise! Put on a cute outfit, grab your camera, and get clicking!

Antiquing — Savannah has many antique shops. Visit one of them to find unique items from a bygone era!

Owens- Thomas House & Slave Quarters — This house was completed in 1819 and is a National Landmark. This beautifully curated home holds the only intact urban slave home, and your guides go deep into the history of slaves in Savannah. The quarters hold the nation’s largest expanse of slave-applied haint blue paint, made from indigo and thought to ward off evil spirits.

Juliette Gordon Lowe House — Yes, the creator of Girl Scouts! This is her birthplace and Savannah’s first national landmark!

What to Wear for a Savannah Girls’ Weekend Trip

Savannah is truly a southern town, so you can expect the weather to be typical of the south.  It’s going to be humid, and if you’re traveling any time between March – September, expect it to bring the heat.  While September can be perfect weather, I would still plan for warmer days and pleasant nights.  In the summer, you’re going to want loose-fitting clothing that is lightly colored.

Don’t forget comfy shoes to walk around in all day!  As always – and what you’ll see in any of my packing guides, I 100% recommend BIRDIES!

Trolley Tour to Familiarize Yourself with The City

Taking one of the Trolley Tours is really the best way to get immediately acclimated to your new surroundings and learn the history of the city you are visiting!  You can purchase 1 or 3-day tickets, and often, the trolley will have shuttles that run out to some of the further destinations that aren’t in the historic center of town.  I always recommend these tours because you will see things you wouldn’t have ever known about them!

Window Shop Down the Riverfront on Broughton Street

After the Trolly Tour, take a stroll down Broughton Street and pop into one (or many) of the cute little boutiques lining the picturesque Southern lane.  You’ll be tempted to break out your wallet for sure!  And while you’re on Broughton Street, don’t forget to…

Visit the Owens- Thomas House & Slave Quarters

One of my favorite historical things to do in Savannah is to visit the Owens-Thomas House and Slave Quarters.  This home is the only example of Urban Slave Quarters in the US and has original ain’t blue ceilings in the quarters as well.  It is a National Landmark.  Including the preserved and complex history and dynamics between the enslaved and the owners, the home that was completed in the early 1800s is wonderfully preserved.  Daily tours offer insightful views into America’s history.

Visit Chippewa Square, Where Most of the Movie Forrest Gump Was Filmed

“Mama always said life was like a box of chocolates…” and you know the rest.  Most of the movie Forrest Gump was filmed in Savannah, right there in Chippewa Square, where Forrest Gump sat waiting at the bus stop.  The bench isn’t there, it’s at a museum in Savannah, but it’s still a stunning square and worth taking a few photos at.

Hit Up Some Rooftop Bars – The Cuteset Savannah Girls’ Weekend Tapa Spots!

After all that excitement, you’ll want to freshen up and head out for the evening. Put on that new dress you got while out shopping today and head to dinner or tapas at one of Savannah’s amazing rooftop bars!

Day 2 of the Savannah Girls’ Weekend Trip

Today is an early riser day unless you don’t have a car. Then cut out Tybee Island (omit Tybee if it’s cold— instead, head to a fun brunch!).

Visit Wormsloe Plantation

Another historical sight, this is well worth the drive out of downtown to visit.  This famous long driveway framed with wide old oak trees is one of the most beautiful locations in Savannah.  It is so old South and just oozes sentiment and charm.  It’s also another filming location for the famous Forrest Gump movie! Do you recognize it, Jennay?

Head out to Tybee Island for Some Sun & Lunch

Drive on out 20 more minutes to Tybee Island for some time on the beach and a picnic lunch!

Stroll Through Forsyth Park

On your way back into town make a stop in Forsyth Park for more oaks, food trucks, rallies, and who knows what else.  Something exciting is always happening at Forsyth!

Dinner at Alligator Soul

This amazing dinner is a fantastic option for something different in Savannah. With a wild and exotic menu, you’re sure to find something here you’ve never tried before!

Drunken Pub Crawl – The Ultimate to Do for a Savannah Girls’ Weekend Trip!

Visit Bonaventure Cemetary

You might think it’s a little strange to visit a Cemetery during a Savannah Girl’s Trip, but this place is so worth it.  With thick southern oaks and crackling tombstones.

Visit the Grove for a Champagne Pop or a Mule Bucket

There’s nothing better than walking around on a hot day and having a nice cold popsicle to keep you cool.  The Grove serves champagne pops made just perfect for this! Or, if you want to make a stop and sit down, opt for a Mule Bucket to share with your gals!

Get Groovy at Leopold’s Icecream

It was founded by 3 brothers in 1919 from Greece and has been a staple of Savannah ever since.  Located on Broughton Street since 2004, this candy and ice cream store has been featured in many films.  Stop in, grab a scoop, and take some cute gram snaps!

Walk Down Rainbow Row

Located one block off of River Street, this road is aptly named for its bright block-colored Victorian Homes.  This cute street is perfect for Instagram photos and daydreaming.
